I joined Google as part of the Blogger acquisition in February 2003. There were only six of us on the Pyra Labs team and we were Google's first acquisition*. Google was only about 600 employees strong. There were times when we felt like royalty and other times when we felt like guinea pigs but all-in-all it has been an amazing ride. I'm very grateful that after joining that I was not only able to contribute on Blogger but to start-up my own product (Google Reader) which by most accounts is now the #1 web-based feed reader. When I wanted to get back to business development I found a great home on a fantastic team and even got to work on products I know and love like Picasa, Reader and Blogger.I've been working with Blogger for a long time. Before one can iPod ones BMW, or VW as the case may be here, one must have an iPod. Sure I could spend all day reading iPodLounge but this is the LazyWeb at it's best (or worst?). You are my readers, friends, compadres, creepy weirdos that IM me at 2AM and I trust you - what do I need to know before taking the leap,?
Have you found the 40GB iPod to be overkill? Does a pink iPod enhance the experience that much? Is there an accessory you can't live without? Do I need the docking station, remote and a ruberized iCondom? Comment on!
I wasn't invited. If you are the type of person who reads this blog and might be prone to drop one of those 'so...going to Foo Camp' lines to see what brand of smart kid I am - well, I didn't make the cut. I don't know what to tell you. You have to draw the line somewhere I guess, and I'm pretty sure hipster geeks will be well represented anyway, so no offense to Tim O'Reilly or any of the other organizers or attendees. Geek out. Have fun, and please write it all down. See you at the thing in a few days or weeks and the thing after that in October or November. Have your people call my people or maybe our people can have a thing of their own and podcast it and I can just listen to it on the web anyway and then I don't have to feel bad about not going. If you need me this weekend I'll be at the beach eating hotdogs and building sandcastles with these guys.
