Sorry Mom, Sorry Allie. Today we had to give birth to an all new Blogger. Working on a Sunday. For the people. You can thank me later. Let me know what you think in my NEW comment link, now powered by Blogger!
Love it. Blogged about it already, albeit briefly. I'm a mom and a grandmother so it's a great Mother's Day gift for me and I'll thank you and everyone who worked on it right now. I'm having a little trouble getting the comments going, so went back to Haloscan for the moment, but I'll have plenty of time to check it all out in other week when I'm on vacation.
Guy, this is just amazing.. You at google always surprise me.. The new Blogger is simply awesome.. The design, the features, everything.. Congratulations.. (PS.: Your blog design is very good) (PS2.: What a team of designers you had! 26 new templates, done by the most famous designers out there)
It's pretty but I preferred the old authoring page. Comments? Just another spam magnet. I see, this being my first new Blogger comment, that my name is being drawn from my profile, with no option to edit it, one more thing less than lovely. And previewing this comment I see that linebreaks are not respected and I cannot insert them with HTML tags.
This should be a new paragraph but, of course, it isn't. Am I being curmudgeonly? As always. My informal linkback.
We have actually have tried to be smart about the spam stuff. As you may have noticed, I'm only allowing comments here from folks who have a Blogger account. I would expect like other spam fighting that this will take a while to perfect. Roll with it.
Regarding the display name, just edit your profile in Blogger and you can post as whatever name you prefer.
Nice job. Very pleasant to the eye and quite functional. I am sure many of your users will be very happy with the comments feature, though it'd be nice for non-blogger users to be able to post without (without having to register) and include their name and url when they want to add it.
Yo shellen, congrats on the new release. It got me interested enough to bang around a bit. Some comments here.
Oh, pretty decent tag filtering, but what's allowed and what's not? also, no nl2br means everythings just big clumps in the comments? (br and p's are filtered) -- out of curiousity, are you guys using custom code for that or something standard?
Line breaks don't seem to work, no p or br tags. My user name is getting truncated too. The new templates look awesome...but fixed width designs suck in general. 1280x1024 screen resolution is wasted. But a built-in comment system and trackbacks are great. Requiring Blogger logins to comment isn't such a hot idea. Man, Sixapart and Blogware must not be too happy to see these changes. There's basically no reason to go with Typepad any more, except for moblogging and image galleries, which are relatively infrequently used anyway. Google should spin off Blogger and have a separate IPO. They could make quite a bit of money. The Blog Sceptic
Kudos for the new look. It makes the site more readable IMO. I have a question though. I'm a relatively new user of blogger and can't seem a way to search through different blogs. What gives?
whoa... there's trackbacks too? dang. I need to figure out if i can import my old haloscan comments and stuff. Indeed. Thanks for all your hard work shellen, you still own me! Really, it's great!!! I'm no longer tempted to tackle MT.
Jason, I think you all did a wonderful job! I really like all the changes I've seen and used so far. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see what you guys do next.
photo: Jason ShellenMany happy returns. I'm glad you came along when you did. My life wouldn't have been the same without you. Thanks to Ev, Meg, Paul, Matt and Derek for dreaming up such a fun playground for me personally and professionally. Thanks to those who helped power the [b] during the hard times and for those keeping it real over at Google. You know who you are.
I took over organizing the Macworld SF bloggers lunch after Mr. Barrett stopped making the trek out four years ago. That means that we are looking at the fifth year of the annual lunch and should probably have our act together this year and plan way ahead so we can monetize world-class web-readiness or something. In any case, the lunch will be on January 10, 2006 at a time and meeting place to be decided shortly depending on interest (feel free to use the comments here to hash it out if you like). You don't need to be attending the conference to come out to lunch, but if you would like to go to the show too you can grab a free Macworld Expo Pass from the generous folks at Other World Computing. You can even register online. The nicest thing about this lunch - low formality and purpose, high on chocolate chip cookies and goofing off. I encourage you to let me know if you are planning on attending and spread the word. Last year we had a great time and I expect this year to be even b…
Anyone in the mood for some debunking and factual proclamations today? Ok good, let's start with an easy one in this announcement about MSN Spaces:
Google Inc., Microsoft's newest rival in online search and Web-based services, also has a popular blogging service called Blogger that the Web search company bought in 2002.Actually it was 2003.On to a more delicate one, let's debunk the Google video blogging rumor. Larry Page was quoted as saying:"In the next few days, we're actually going to start taking video submissions from people, and we're not quite sure what we're going to get, but we decided we'd try this experiment"I appreciate the fervor for the blog format, but the above statement should not give folks the impression that this is video blogging. It is not. I like the idea of video blogging but this is an unrelated experiment, you'll see what I mean in the coming weeks.Moving on, Steve Rubel writes, Why Google is Syndication Shy:Before …
amazing layout!! what about the "You can thank me later." thing?! you did all these changes? this is amazing, I liked a lot, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWoah! To be clear, I did not do all these changes. The entire Blogger team and even some other folks were involved. More news tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteHmm, I miss a feature to group posts in categories. Do you plan to implement this in the future?
ReplyDeleteSadly, the comments commentary was the least of my concerns.
ReplyDeleteSadly? Bill your a hard nut to crack.

Excellent! Congratulations for another excelent piece of software! Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteKudos for the new look. It makes the site more readable IMO. I have a question though. I'm a relatively new user of blogger and can't seem a way to search through different blogs. What gives?
ReplyDeleteThe people thank you, a day later.
ReplyDeleteNice work. I just got an account today after reading about the new stuff on your blog. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeletewhoa... there's trackbacks too? dang. I need to figure out if i can import my old haloscan comments and stuff. Indeed. Thanks for all your hard work shellen, you still own me! Really, it's great!!! I'm no longer tempted to tackle MT.
ReplyDeletei like it, but it looks a bit cartoony, doesn't it? that's my only, minor, minnnnoor gripe. :D other than that it's great!
ReplyDeleteWow this looks nice. Looks a lot nicer but wish you could skin your own comments.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or is Publishing Having a problem every now and again? This just started happening since the change over. Just keeps flashing 0%. ?
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem Chad.
ReplyDeleteJason, I think you all did a wonderful job! I really like all the changes I've seen and used so far. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see what you guys do next.
ReplyDeleteHow come when I click on "Comments" on some blog's powered by Blogger, it takes me to Microsoft.com? Or is it just me? :)
ReplyDeleteAnother bit of feedback: Wha happened to the keyboard shortcuts for post and post & publish? If the other ones(bold, italic) still work, why not them?
ReplyDeleteNew Blogger is total coolness.
ReplyDeleteWell done and thank you!
